Saloon takes you back to the good old days

15 Mar

It’s hidden so you might miss it. But when you find the light globe announcing Saloon in small red letters a couple doors down from its sister bar/restaurant Foundry on Elm, go down the flight of stairs and prepare to be amazed.

It’s a bar unlike any other in the area, spacious, stylish and boasting brown drinks and suave cocktails from bygone days. Bring an appetite and dress nice because once you’re there, you’ll wish you had.

With unique cocktails and braised pork bellies, Saloon wined and dined patrons at its official grand opening last Wednesday in Davis Square.

First timers admitted it was a little hard to find; regulars called it a hidden gem that they hope remains hidden before it becomes just another overcrowded Somerville haunt.

“I definitely like it,” said Jacqueline Houton of Cambridge. “It’s like an old man’s library—in a good way.”

Red chairs, magical apps and unique arts

29 Aug

We had VIP access to the sixth annual Red Chair Affair last night that kicked off the Central Florida arts season with a few Magical Dining Month participants providing food and drinks.

The event was lovely and the program that followed at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Center was unique.

The 4th Annual Red Chair Affair kicks-off Central Florida’s cultural season on Sunday, September 7 at 7:30 p.m. at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Center. Performers will include Cirque du Soleil, Orlando Opera, Mad Cow Theatre, Orlando Ballet, Orlando Philharmonic, VarieTEASE and many more. The Red Chair Affair also kicks-off the Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitors Bureau’s (Orlando CVB) 3rd Annual Orlando Magical Dining Month with cuisine provided by many of Orlando’s top restaurants.

Ever been to a king’s court with jesters and lots of meat? Downtown Boston’s Medieval Manor is a great dinner-theater with mounds of food and loads of laughs.

It’s even better if you want to go on April 1 this year with this BuyWithMe half-off deal. That’s dinner and entertainment for only $15 – you’d be a fool to not buy! Let me know if you are in.
